The Curaçao Gaming Authority is the regulator behind most Curaçao licence claims you will see in casino footers, and its own website is where those claims are settled. If you came from the online casino license check, this page shows what that regulator publishes and how to read it.
What the Curaçao Gaming Authority is
The authority describes itself on cga.cw as a foundation incorporated on 19 April 1999. For land-based casinos it has licensed and supervised since its founding. For online gaming the dates changed twice.
| Date | What changed, per cga.cw |
|---|---|
| 19 April 1999 | The foundation is incorporated to regulate gaming in and from Curaçao |
| March 2020 | The Minister of Finance mandates it to license and supervise online gaming |
| November 2023 | Phased reform of the online gaming regime begins on behalf of the Minister |
| 24 December 2024 | The National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK) takes effect; the Gaming Control Board is renamed the Curaçao Gaming Authority and becomes an independent administrative authority for online gaming |
It also supervises anti-money-laundering compliance for the gaming industry, the topic of the AMLC page.
From the old ordinance to a public register
Before the LOK, online licences ran under the National Ordinance on Offshore Games of Hazard, known as the LBH. The authority says the LBH stays relevant through transitional provisions in the new law.
| Before the LOK | Under the LOK | |
|---|---|---|
| Law | National Ordinance on Offshore Games of Hazard (LBH) | National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK) |
| Licensing body | The authority on behalf of the Minister of Finance | The authority as an independent administrative authority |
| Status | Replaced, but transitional provisions keep it relevant | In force from 24 December 2024 |
What a player sees now is a published register rather than a certificate image on a casino’s own page. Each entry names a licensee, a company type, a company registration number, an issue date, an expiry date and a status. The register is how you tell a live licence from a badge.
The lists the authority publishes
Open License register on cga.cw and you reach four documents.
| Document | What it lists | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
| Online gaming licence list | Licensees, company type B2C or B2B, registration number, dates, status | Confirm the company in a footer holds a licence |
| Certificate-holder list under article 5.17 of the LOK | Certified test labs and alternative dispute resolution providers | See which independent testers and dispute bodies are certified |
| Enforcement register | Licences revoked, suspended or not extended | Rule out a company whose licence was pulled |
| Land-based casino registry | Casinos on the island | Not relevant to online play |
The authority also keeps a Public Warnings page of dated notices naming websites.
N.V. meaning and the company registration number
N.V. stands for naamloze vennootschap, the Dutch-law public limited company form used in Curaçao; B.V. is besloten vennootschap, the private limited form. Both are endings of a company, never of a brand, and the online gaming licence list names licensees with either one.
| Ending | Dutch term | English form | What to do with it |
|---|---|---|---|
| N.V. | naamloze vennootschap | Public limited company | Keep it in the search exactly as printed |
| B.V. | besloten vennootschap | Private limited company | Treat a B.V. and an N.V. of the same name as two companies |
The number printed beside the name is a company registration number, and the licence list carries it in its own column. Curaçao’s Chamber of Commerce runs a registry search that finds a company by name or by that number and opens an extract in English or Dutch. When the extract and the licence list show the same name, ending and number, the footer line points at one real company.
How to search it from your phone
- Type cga.cw into your browser yourself.
- Open License register, then the online gaming licence list.
- Search the page for the company name from the casino footer, with N.V. or B.V. at the end, then search the registration number on its own.
- Read the status and the expiry date.
- Open the enforcement register and search the same name.
If one company seems to run many lookalike lobbies, the mirror site and copy checks page explains how shared platforms and copies differ. What the authority will not do for you
You lost a dispute with a casino and want the authority to order a refund.
The authority states on its online gaming page that it is not a civil court and cannot order operators to compensate players. Raise it with the operator and, if needed, use legal channels. A complaint can still be sent to the authority’s complaints address as a signal about the operator’s conduct.
FAQ
What is the Curaçao Gaming Authority?
It is the Curaçao regulator for the gaming industry. It began as the Gaming Control Board, a foundation incorporated on 19 April 1999, and since the National Ordinance on Games of Chance took effect on 24 December 2024 it is the independent authority licensing and supervising online gaming.
Where do I read the Curaçao Gaming Authority's licence list?
On cga.cw, open the License register in the menu. It links an online gaming licence list, a certificate-holder list and an enforcement register. Type the address yourself rather than following a link from a casino.
Can the Curaçao Gaming Authority get my money back?
Its own online gaming page says it does not handle individual player complaints, cannot mediate or arbitrate, and is not a civil court that can order compensation. Complaints to the operator come first; the authority takes reports as signals of possible breaches of the law.
Does a listing prove a casino is safe to deposit with?
A listing proves the named company held a licence on the date the list was produced. The register itself says its overviews do not guarantee current validity, so read the expiry and status columns and the enforcement register on the same day you deposit.
